The Lithgow Community Power Project was formed in July 2020 and registered in August 2020 as an Incorporated Association (registration number INC2001105).

The immediate aims of the Project are:
- To raise community support for the diversification of the local economy.
- To change local use of transport and energy technologies.
- To foster community action to reduce transport and energy costs and impacts.

The Project’s aims support community initiatives:
- To actively participate in community conversations concerning rapid social and economic change in the region.
- To promote and support local social, economic and environmental initiatives.
